• About Rosewood •
The idea for Rosewood was sparked by the first two mice I had ever had the pleasure of owning. Both small and young, these two pet shops Does began my love for the beautiful little rodents. Dory and Nemo came to live with me in the October of 2010, as I was unable to afford a cat or puppy at the time. A few days after bringing the pair home, I collected a third mouse and one day later came my first buck, Pirate, a reverse rumpwhite buck whom I adored.
These four mice were the beginnings of Rosewood. On the 16th of October, the mousery opened for its first day, then consisting of several does and two bucks. The first mice were pet types, small but very energetic and bought from the local pet shop. They were joined by a larger group of bucks and does from better typed pet lines, which later solidified the mousery’s mousey foundation.
From the start, I had been looking into the National Mouse Club and what it was. I had met various members in online forums, but it wasn't until I finally attended my first show, the Bradford Championship in Harrogate, in January 2011, that I finally managed to meet more members and join the club. I had deliberately saved up money and at the time had been unaware of the fact that an auction was on later in the day, in which trios of mice from various exhibitors would appear. Upon first inspecting the auction, the Variegated were the first trio to catch my eye. So its not surprise that later on, I put several bids on the trio and ended up buying them for £50. The trio had been bred by David Bumford, who had brought Variegated back from near extinction. From that point, I have seen David as my mentor in the mousing world, as at every show, he has filled my mind with a whole new load of information on mice and allowed me to steward for him several times.
It is because of David that I am now purely concentrating on keeping the Variegated alive in the fancy and continuing his lines. He and Jake Jackson (of Yankee Doodle Stud) have also brought their own colours into the variety, so I eventually hope to bring my own in and leave my mark on the variety, by creating a line of Red Variegated.

The mousery is owned and maintained by myself - Janna Dobson. Rosewood’s name originated from the combination of my late grandmother’s name – Rose Wright - and my own surname. The mousery is dedicated to Rose, as she passed on in early 2002. Any spare funds from the selling of our mice go towards the care of my Nannan's grave and towards the care of the mice and other critters who share my home.
